We’re offering our BeLovedNow Yoga Nidra Meditation as an embodied practice tool to support you in deep relaxation. If you haven’t yet been introduced to Yoga Nidra Meditation - also known as “Divine Sleep” - here’s some background information to familiarize you with this practice:
For the practice of Yoga Nidra, we lie down and allow ourselves to move into a deep state of conscious sleep, which is a deeper state of relaxation with awareness. Yoga Nidra combines a body scan with breath awareness, and adds a visual and sense component. It's often called yogic sleep, because it induces states of mind that are between being asleep and being awake, resulting in deep relaxation and rejuvenation.
This sleep-like state induces relaxed brainwave activity, slowing alpha waves, and even slower theta waves, the entry points to the subconscious. It can also help manage immune function, blood pressure, cortisol levels and assist in better overall nighttime sleep, all helping to reduce anxiety and stress and balance the nervous system. For many of us there are times when silent, seated meditation is not accessible, because of chronic pain, anxiety, depression, or PTSD etc., and Yoga Nidra is an accessible, user-friendly way to learn about and experience meditation and the deeper healing states of relaxation.
